On a clear autumn night, Slug and Snail were lying happily asleep in their cosy little house, tucked away underneath a rock in the corner of their garden. A bright patch of moonlight moved across the floor, slowly and carefully, as the moon outside journeyed across the night sky. The light reached the end of Slug's bed, then moved upwards until it started shining brightly into his face.
Slug was dreaming. Dreaming that he was flying, like his friends Butterfly and Bee could do. Flying up in the sky, above Slug and Snail's garden, up into the clouds. Suddenly his dream was interrupted, as he imagined that someone was shining a torch into his face. Was it Snail playing tricks again? Then, he woke up and realised that the light was real, that it was coming through the window, and that it was the light of the moon.
Slug slithered over to the window, and looked out into the sky. The moon was shining bright, an almost-but-not-quite-round ball glowing in the darkness and providing enough light for Slug to see all of the garden around him. Then, in a moment of inspiration, he remembered his dream and wondered to himself, "What is the Moon really like? I wish I could go there and have a look around." He slithered back to bed and lay there, too excited to sleep. The next morning, he was going to tell Snail about his idea, and together they would find a way to travel to the moon!
